Bowen Technique

Hello, I'm qualifed in the Bowen tecnique, offering treatments in Barnstaple, Braunton and Mortehoe. I trained under John Wilks who is regarded as one of the best Bowen teachers in the world. I'm a member of the Bowen Association UK. All Bowen practioners are trained to the highest stards and are recognised by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.

What is Bowen?

The Bowen Technique is a very gentle treatment, suitable for everyone, it enables the body to recognise where change is needed, assists the natural healing process, bringing the body back to a state of homeostasis.

In Bowen therapy, we work on both the muscles, and fascia. Fascia is important, highly mobile connective tissue which runs throughout the entire body. It is through the fascia that we address levels of tension and discomfort, creating space for muscles to heal. We purposely move the fascia in a particular way to stimulate or relax fibres in order to achieve improved posture, flexibility, mobility and helping to reduce your pain.

This simple yet highly specific technique was developed in the 1950s by Tom Bowen and has been widely practised since. It is non-invasive and cost-effective, with the client typically needing no more than 3 treatments.

Can the Bowen technique help me?

The Bowen Technique is a recognised hands-on complementary therapy, which many turn to for significant relief from troubling aches and pains and (often) to address long-standing issues.

The Bowen Technique has an excellent track record in helping people with a wide variety of symptoms. It is extremely effective in the treatment of musculo-skeletal problems such as back Pain, sciatica, headaches, RSI, Carpel tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, knee, feet & ankle Issues, neck & shoulder restrictions, including frozen shoulder, sport Injuries & performance. Bowen also has a demonstrable effect on many chronic medical problems: cerebral palsy, Parkinsons & stroke, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, digestion, respiratory problems, hayfever and allergies, migraine & sinus, tinnitus, menstrual and hormonal irregularities, stress, anxiety, depression & low energy.

Babies and Children

If your baby is a restless sleeper, teething, or suffering from colic, the Bowen technique could help you and your child.

The exceptional gentleness of the Bowen movements, combined with their effectiveness, makes the therapy a powerful tool for treatment and relief of discomfort in babies. Newborn babies often have delayed intestinal peristalsis due to an immature digestive system. This can lead to constipation, reflux, difficulty in digestion or restless sleep.

Bowen treatment for babies is very effective in releasing tension in the diaphragm, possibly a contributing factor to colic, as it is often one of the tensest areas of a baby suffering from colic. Baby Bowen is a series of soft, gentle yet very effective moves applied to your baby’s back and front. Babies and children often don’t need much work at all as their body’s response rate appears to be much faster.
